Note: Effective September 6, 2011 all routine consular services at the U.S. Embassy Dakar, Senegal will be provided by APPOINTMENT ONLY to all U.S. citizens visiting or residing in Senegal or Guinea-Bissau. There will no longer be walk-in hours for routine consular services. Emergency cases (such as medical emergencies, deaths or arrests involving American citizens) will still be handled on a walk-in basis during normal Embassy hours, or after hours by calling the Embassy duty officer.

American Citizens who need emergency services are welcome to come during normal U.S. Embassy hours which are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Before Traveling Abroad

1. American traveling to Senegal would purchase medical evacuation insurance. Most U.S.-based health insurance will not cover overseas healthcare; contact your Insurance Provider for more information
2. Visit a travel medicine clinic before you leave for Senegal. Most visitors will require extra immunization and malaria prevention medication.
