How to Apply for a U.S. Passport

Please visit the Passport Forms page and take our interactive quiz to find out what type of passport application forms you will need to submit.  You can fill out the forms directly on this website and print them out.  Alternatively, you can obtain the appropriate application forms at the Consular Section’s American Citizen Services Unit.

Except in emergencies, all U.S. passports must be printed at facilities in the U.S.  Processing time takes approximately two weeks.  You can check the status of your passport.

U.S. Passports can no longer be amended.  For name changes and other forms of amendments, please apply for a new passport.

ACS Hours

  • Note: Effective September 6, 2011 all routine consular services at the U.S. Embassy Dakar, Senegal will be provided by APPOINTMENT ONLY to all U.S. citizens visiting or residing in Senegal or Guinea-Bissau. There will no longer be walk-in hours for routine consular services. Emergency cases (such as medical emergencies, deaths or arrests involving American citizens) will still be handled on a walk-in basis during normal Embassy hours, or after hours by calling the Embassy duty officer.

American Citizens who need emergency services are welcome to come during normal U.S. Embassy hours which are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
