Non-Immigrant Visas
Information about Visas for Medical Treatment
The U.S. has some of the best medical care in the world, and we encourage qualified applicants to travel to the United States for medical treatment.
U.S. immigration law does not set aside a specific type of visa for medical treatment. You should apply for a visitor and busines visa and must demonstrate your eligibility for that visa.
In addition, you must demonstrate your ability to pay for the full course of your medical treatment. Medical treatment includes giving birth. You are not permitted to enter the U.S. for medical treatment if you intend to use public funds or are unable to pay for your treatment. If you intend to obtain medical treatments in the U.S. you must state this on your visa application; failure to do so could be result in being permanently ineligible for a U.S. visa. You must demonstrate their treatment plans and financial ability to pay for this treatment during an interview with a consular officer. They must also demonstrate their intent to return home rather than stay permanently in the U.S..
If you had medical treatment in the U.S. in the past, you may be asked to demonstrate that you paid for their medical treatment when you apply for a later visa. If you did not, the consular officer can refuse the visa if they believe you are not credible or that you intend to obtain medical treatment without proper payment.
