On Monday, September 1, 2008, Henrietta K. Fore, US Agency for International Development Administrator and Director of Foreign Assistance, and the Senegalese Minister of Finance Abdoulaye Diop signed a Strategic Objective Agreement establishing a commitment of bilateral funds for the fiscal year 2008. Therefore, Senegal has benefitted from a total grant of more than $ 51 million over the course of this year.
Ms. Fore gave a brief speech during the ceremony, describing the distribution of funds allocated to USAID/Senegal programs. "This financial assistance,” she said, “is a contribution from the American people and government to support the important efforts put forth for the development of Senegal."
In 2008, USAID has increased its contributions by $3 million compared over the year 2007. This increase is linked to enhanced USAID programs in the sectors of education, particularly in middle school, and health, especially in the fight against malaria in Senegal.
