Africa Partnership Station: Military exercises between Senegalese and Americans
USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43), part of the new initiative Africa Partnership Station (APS), was in Dakar November 6-8, 2007. Africa Partnership Station is a concerted interagency and multinational effort to promote maritime safety and security in Africa with a joint staff representing navies of eight European, African and North American countries.

During the visit, small boat, medical and safety training was conducted between APS partners and the Senegalese Navy. After Senegal, APS will visit ports in Liberia, Ghana, Cameroon, Gabon, Sao Tome & Principe, and other African countries to conduct training, complete humanitarian projects and build partnerships among participating nations.
