Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Senegal 

Ambassador Janice Jacobs was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on February 16, 2006 and presented her credentials to President Abdoulaye Wade on April 14, 2006.  Ambassador Jacobs is a Senior Foreign Service Officer with 26 years of experience in Africa, Latin America and Europe.  Prior to her appointment as Ambassador to Senegal, she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Visa Services.  From 2000-2002, she served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo.  Her career also includes assignments to Mexico, France, Ethiopia, and Nigeria as well as Washington, D.C., in the State Department’s Visa Office, Operations Center, and Office of Cuban Affairs.

A native of Virginia, Ambassador Jacobs received a B.A. in French and Education from Southern Illinois University in 1968 and a Master’s in National Security Strategy from the National War College in 1995.
