Key RELO Activities

The American Center Summer Institute for English Teachers (ACSI) This annual two-week institute was inspired by a RELO meeting with English teachers in Touba, Senegal in 2003.  English teachers in the informal sector (e.g. Islamic schools) generally do not participate in Ministry of Education professional development programs yet typically teach in some of the most difficult circumstances (e.g. very large classes) so ACSI offers training in communicative methodology, using the Internet for teaching English, and English through American Studies.  Institutes are held in Dakar and Bamako, and include teachers from Mauritania and Guinea-Bissau.
