Key RELO Activities

- The English Access Microscholarship Program. Established in 2004, active in over thirty countries around the world, this program was created by the U.S. Department of State to provide two years of private English classes to deserving students who might not be able to afford them otherwise.

In Senegal, the classes are taught by Dakar English Language Center and Suffolk University, and students have a chance to interact with Americans during extra activities like summer camp, films, and discussions. Participation in the program is competitive and is offered to sophomores in selected high schools.  Equal numbers of boys and girls are chosen according to these criteria:

  • Minimum GPA of 10/20
  • Demonstrated strong motivation to learn English
  • Demonstrated desire to give back to their families, communities, and country
